Bill Atchley's lab in the Department of Genetics at North Carolina State University carries out research in Computational Biology. We use mathematical, statistical, computational and molecular tools to explore complex biological problems. We integrate computational and molecular approaches to explore broad problems in evolution and development. Research is carried out in molecular evolution on topics as diverse as analyses of DNA binding specificity in bHLH transcription factors, modeling protein structure and evolution, and quantitative genetic analyses of the architecture of complex polygenically controlled traits. Our research includes both theoretical and experimental components. We are also part of the Center for Computational Biology (Combo).
